HARLEEN SEKHON

Mentor

Harleen is a homemaker with two daughters in college. For the last 13 years, she’s spearheaded grooming courses for all ages.

She enjoys reading and participates in various activities of the city-based book club, “Just books.” She also dedicates her time to the Sahayta Cancer Sahyog, an NGO for cancer patients. She works in the pediatric oncology department where she counsels parents of children with cancer, providing free chemotherapy drugs and educating children who drop out of school for their treatment.

Her love for literature, art, music and culture prompted her to join the Chandigarh Literary Society, which holds its annual literature festival in November. She is an active member of the organizing team.

She was introduced to Sikhya by founder Imandeep Grewal, and has since counseled and mentored economically disadvantaged girls and helped empower them with education. She believes that it has been immensely enriching to be able to encourage girls to pursue higher education and is extremely thankful for the opportunity.

After her younger daughter enrolled in college, she enrolled in an undergraduate degree program and is chipping away at the correspondence program. She was married very young and understands the value of education. She is inspired and honored to mentor young girls as they work toward their own education.
